Science at KMS is full of surprises!
Our science curriculum follows the Next Generation Science Standards and is organized into three core units: Physical Science, Earth Science, and Life Science. Each unit is rich with hands-on discovery, giving students meaningful opportunities to grow and learn through creative, engaging lessons. These experiences are designed to promote higher-order thinking and real-world application. As students progress from year to year, lessons intentionally build on prior knowledge, helping them make connections and deepen their understanding as they grow.

Art at KMS!                     The art curriculum for grades 2–4 is designed to nurture creativity, imagination, and foundational artistic skills while encouraging creative problem solving. Students explore a variety of art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and crafts while learning the basic elements of art, including line, shape, color, texture, and pattern. Through hands-on activities, students are challenged to make choices, experiment with materials, and find solutions to artistic problems, helping them develop critical thinking and flexibility. The curriculum builds fine motor skills, visual awareness, and confidence in self-expression, while also introducing simple art vocabulary and fostering an appreciation of different cultures and artistic styles, emphasizing that art is both a creative process and a meaningful form of communication.

KMS Music!                The curriculum for music education at KMS follows The National Standards for Music Education where students create, perform, and respond to music in meaningful ways. Students begin their journey in second grade by finding the beat and rhythm patterns in music using various tools and instruments. This carries them to third grade where they apply their prior knowledge of rhythm patterns to identify note names and rhythms on the music staff. In fourth grade, students use their past learnings of music notation to inform their practice on the recorder and other complex instruments. This is all in preparation for when students may be asked to read, perform, and create music via voice or instrument in the coming years.
